They will try to preserve as much of the wood and tile floors from the original building but not at the expense of uneven and unsafe surfaces. One cool upgrade will be taking advantage the roof top deck off
the fourth floor to a lounge area for guests to enjoy. This deck offers a prime spot with the best views of Petaluma while hanging out or hosting special occasions. This renovation will take months and maybe years given the permit processes etc… Hopes are that by the end of June progress will start to be evident.
There are other more modern undesirable improvements made over the years like this ceiling fan in the Ballroom. It will be replaced with the original ornate chandeliers.
One thing that will not be preserved is the old management that may have tarnished the reputation of the hotel in past years. Please know that Petaluma Hotel is now under new management! So whatever you
heard in the past about them is no longer. We had the great pleasure of meeting their friendly staff and they seemed dedicated to hold true what was originally intended by its founders.
Its friendly doors welcome the stranger and under its hospitable roof the friends of Petaluma find always only goodwill….
Good things are happening in this hotel that will make it THE choice place to stay for anyone visiting our city. If you know of anyone coming to visit Petaluma send them this post. If they want to get the Petaluma experience to include our history and culture this is the place to stay.

I was at the hotel a couple of years ago. I think it has possibilities! One thing they really need is new windows that fit tightly and cut out noise from Washington. They would need a new heating and AC so you wouldn’t have to open the windows. It would be expensize I’m sure, but this place has a lot of charm.
I’m so happy to know they’re honoring the history of this special hotel. And I love the fact that they’re planning to give back the courtyard area that was in the original hotel, well at least as best as they can.
I don’t know if the fireplace that my husband painted will remain as is or will be repainted or even removed, but at least we have photos of that project and can remember it that way.
I still miss the incredible bayou mural that Carol Salomon-Bryant did when the Cajun Moon Restaurant was there. Now that was some amazing artistry!
Thanks for sharing this as I’ve been mighty curious!
Thanks for the comment Anastasia – The historic fireplace will remain as is – I don’t know if they have plans to freshen it up with a new coat of paint or not.
Fingers crossed they won’t. I love what my husband did with it and it would be so cool to have it there, as is, when this hotel is brought back to it’s glory. 🙂
Wonderful to restore this hotel. Will there be affordable rates for low in come people?
I know the new GM, Juli Lederhaus, personally. She is very dedicated, and passionate about her job. She will be a great asset to the hotel. I am looking forward to a visit when the renovations are complete!
Here’s a video about Hotel Petaluma produced for the previous owners who had a “good run” at bringing it back to where it is now. These new owners are going to REALLY kick it up! Can’t wait!
