OPINION POLL: Is Booming Petaluma, CA Gun Shop Business Good or Bad News?

This could be good or bad depending on how you look at it. Most of you know that KTVU anchor Ken Wayne is from Petaluma. We appreciate his coverage of our town when he is given the opportunity. We hope in the future KTVU can work harder to do more positive pieces on our city. If you are a subscriber on our site you know that there is an endless supply of good news stories that KTVU could cover but chooses not to. Prior to this report their focus was on DUIs the Friday before Thanksgiving – which is not just a Petaluma centric problem but more of a global one.  I don’t blame Ken for this because he doesn’t choose what he will cover.

We are happy for our local gun store owner, but the controversy continues about gun control especially in light of how our government has reacted to the recent terrorist acts in San Bernardino. We choose not to share political pieces, however we couldn’t decide if this was good or bad news.  We need your help, so we will leave that up to you.  After watching the video take a second (one click of the mouse) to participate take our anonymous poll below.

Here is the video (give a second for it to load and it will appear):

The following poll is anonymous unless you also make a facebook comment (that will show your profile).  The results of the poll will show after you vote. Please also use the facebook and twitter share buttons below to get as many people to participate in the poll as possible.

Petaluma, California: Local Farms Featured in KRCB’s North Bay Bountiful

Tara Firma Farm Photos-3 ResizedKRCB, North Bay Public Media, is running a segment called North Bay Bountiful. From their website:

“Cultivate. Celebrate. Connect. The San Francisco North Bay area enjoys an incredible bounty of resources—both natural and creative—that enrich all our lives. Our land and seascapes offer breathtaking vistas while also serving as the source of an amazing variety of food and products. There is a pervasive sense of appreciation and connectedness around this bounty, and ample evidence that residents care deeply about optimizing and preserving it. Our arts and culture reflect a joyous recognition of all that lives and grows and sustains us here—body and soul. We share a common mindfulness of just how precious and precarious our resources are.”

As part of this special focus, we were pleased to find several Petaluma, California farms featured in this great series.  We are happy to share them on our site.

Petaluma, California: Lighted Boat Parade Tonight 5:30-7:30PM

Petaluma Lighted Boat Parade-30A flotilla of decorated boats will illuminate the Petaluma River Turning Basin in Historic Downtown to celebrate the holiday season tonight.

Individual boaters and the local yacht clubs join in the Petaluma Lighted Boat Parade every year.  Boats aglow with colored lights and holiday decorations start from the Petaluma Marina at dusk (about 5:30 p.m.) to sail into the Historic Downtown Harbor against the darkening sky.

The flotilla remains on view all night long in the Turning Basin.  Following the Lighted Boat Parade, visitors and local residents mingle in Historic Downtown, gathering to dine, drink hot chocolate, snack and enjoy the remainder of the evening entertaining themselves at the many nearby restaurants & clubs.

Here is a short video to kick off the celebration:

Also you can find Carollers in our downtown like the Pacific Empire Chorus – here is a teaser from last year.

PHOTOS: Petaluma, California Chickens

Our site would not be complete if we didn’t have Petaluma chicken photos.  I have been photo’ing our chickens over the years.  It was brought to my attention that I had chicken photos, when I learned the featured photo above has over 5000 views on flickr.  Most of these were taken at Tolay Lake Regional Park.  So I thought I would take the time to create a gallery and slideshow featuring our feathered friends.

I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that the Positively Petaluma flickr group has grown to over 130 members with now over 1000 Petaluma photos added to the group! Do you have some Petaluma chicken photos to share? Please do so on the Positively Petaluma flickr group.

Enjoy!

Known for its Ugliest Dog, #Petaluma also provides the Cutest Dog for Thanksgiving

thanksgiving-day-2015-3First things first – Happy Thanksgiving to you from Positively Petaluma.  We wish you and your family the very best for the holiday.

#Petaluma’s ugliest dog, Quasi Moto, was worldwide news this year as part of the Sonoma-Marin County Fair.  You can see photos of him and this year’s contest in our article “Breaking News: Quasi Modo winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest!”Today, not in any contest, a cute dog was spotted in downtown #Petaluma that is getting worldwide attention on a United Kingdom publication DailyMail.com.  This cute pooch was garnering a costume that gave the appearance of a puppet struggling to carry a very large pumpkin.

To celebrate the holiday with some cheer we thought this video was worth sharing:
