“My Petaluma” video copies Petaluma McDonalds’ Commercial

McDonalds Commercial

UPDATE May 21, 2015: Posted by Argus Courier just three days after our post,  ‘Take two’ on McDonald’s Petaluma commercial

A few days ago a new video was introduced by Chris Cathcart Films called “My Petaluma” with over 700 views already after just a few days of posting it. We were very eager to check it out.  After watching it we said “Right on! that was great.”  We couldn’t wait to share it.  But it had a hint of something.  We watched it a few more times, and yep – it was the Petaluma McDonald’s commercial turned local.  As you know there was a pretty tremendous controversy recently over the Petaluma McDonalds commercial.  If you missed it before, our post The #Petaluma McDonalds TV Spot Commercial is Released! was on the news – which stirred a strong reaction from the community.   Following that we posted Is Any Publicity Good Publicity for #Petaluma? McDonalds Commercial Revisited.

LagunitasWe think this new video “My Petaluma” is a response, or a counter, to the Petaluma McDonald’s Commercial. We think this was our town’s way to express what the video portrays as “truly local.” a “Made In Petaluma” statement. Even though the two McDonalds franchises in town are owned by local business owners people don’t identify with the McDonalds’ brand as being “local.”  People don’t identify with the large food chain as being “who we are” as a people and we don’t want others to think that their brand is anything close to identifying with our city or culture. There is even a contingent that does not even think east Petaluma has anything to do with the west side, and both McDonald’s are on the east side of town.  Several have said, even though the two McDonald’s are in Petaluma, the video portrayed it as being downtown (which as we know – they aren’t).

Clover EggsWhile we much prefer the “My Petaluma” version of these videos, we are putting them side by side so you can see just how close they are.  From the script, the scene changes, music etc… they are very very similar.  There is no mistake about it – this is video was produced as a response to the Petaluma McDonald’s commercial.

#Petaluma Police K-9 Basko Bounces Another Bad Boy

Photo'd Officer Corie Joerger and K-9 Basko

According the Petaluma Police Department, Officer Corie Joerger has been a K-9 handler with PPD since 2009 and was named “2014 Petaluma Police Officer of the Year” partly due to her team work with Basko which resulted in the seizure of 4 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 pound of cocaine, 10 pounds of marijuana and over $275,000 in cash in 2013.

As reported in a press release yesterday evening this incident happened on Wednesday May 6, 2015.

On 5/6/2015 at approximately 3:32 PM, K-9 Officer Corie Joerger was patrolling in the 800 block of Petaluma Blvd. North.  Officer Joerger observed Shane Kee, riding his bicycle towards her vehicle.  Officer Joerger was aware Kee was a wanted felon and currently had 3 outstanding arrest warrants for his arrest. Officer Joerger was also aware Kee has been arrested in the past for weapons violations.  Kee had fled from Petaluma officers on May 5, 2015, the previous evening and eluded arrest.

Officer Joerger stopped her vehicle and ordered Kee to stop.  Kee immediately fled from Officer Joerger.  Officer Joerger pursued Kee into a parking lot, where he dropped his bicycle and continued fleeing on foot.  Kee ran toward the rear of the parking lot, out of Officer Joerger’s view.  Based on Kee’s warrants and his history of weapons charges, K-9 Officer Joerger removed her canine partner “Basko” from her vehicle to search for Kee.  “Basko” located Kee hiding under a truck in the rear of the parking lot, concealing his hands.  K-9 Officer Joerger ordered Kee several times to show his hands and surrender, Kee refused.  Officer Joerger was forced to use “Basko” to assist in the apprehension of Kee.

Kee received medical treatment for minor injuries he received during his arrest.  Kee was later booked into Sonoma County Jail for 3 outstanding arrest warrants and resisting arrest.  Kee is being held on a No Bail hold.

Good job to Officer Joreger and Basko!

Dr Fred Groverman Chosen Grand Marshall for 2015 Petaluma Butter & Egg Days Parade
Dr Fred Groverman Chosen Grand Marshall for 2015 Petaluma Butter & Egg Days Parade

We met Steve Kemmerle at this week’s citywide marketing meeting.  Wow what this guy does for our city is amazing.  In the last year he has grown our veteran’s day parade now drawing over 40,000 visitors per year making it one of the largest veteran’s day parades north of golden gate (Even after the city cut future funding of this event — and the Butter & Egg Days Parade – he had to make that up with fundraising).  Some things coming this year is a Korean war vets memorial.  They had the Good Egg ceremony honoring Steve and the Grand Marshal this year Dr. Fred Groverman.  Steve was described as being humble and I should say this was reflected in his short speech – because he said nothing about him and talked only about the Veteran’s Day parade (something he is obviously passionate about).  He talked about passing veterans sometimes looking like he was going to tear up – you can tell the passion in this man’s heart to honor our country’s service men and woman.  We can’t think of another person who deserves this award more.  They called him the “Unsung Hero” and Kaye Chandler captured the ceremony on video so we thought we would share it with you below in case you missed it.

Also I am sure there will be a lot of information about it in the Argus Courier today (paper copy), however here is the first print of their announcements from the Petaluma Post.

BREAKING NEWS: Daughters Save Mother’s Life After Learning CPR Through HeartSafe Program

Joe Kelly Hero-1 Resized

UPDATE April 24, 2015: Petaluma360.com Two Petaluman’s use CPR to save lives, by Matt Brown.

We have been reporting on these amazing stories about our local youth stepping up and saving lives using skills they learned at school and from our local programs. In October 2014 we share with you  “Save Lives Sonoma” helps 13-Year Old Lewis Save The Life Of His Father with CPR and in December 2014 we posted 10-Year Old Penngrove Boy Saves His Mother’s Life in #Petaluma (a post that went viral and is still gets a lot of traffic today).

We learned about another amazing story that took place on ‘tax day’ in April.

We thank Tami Bender of Petaluma Health Care District (PHCD) for providing this information from Jeff Schach, Petaluma’s Battalion Chief,  along with info about PHCD’s HeartSafe Community.

Jeff Schach, Petaluma Battalion Chief says “We have linked several cardiac arrests saves to our efforts. the most recent occurred on April 15th, 2015.”  A Petaluma 51-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest while making breakfast.  Her daughters, a 7th grader at Petaluma Junior High School and the other a high school student at St. Vincent, called 911 and started CPR on their mother.  When Petaluma Firefighters arrived they were able to get her heart beating normally again with a few shocks and rounds of CPR.  She was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial and then transferred to Kaiser in San Francisco. She now has an internal defibrillator and no deficits.  Her cardiac arrest was caused by an electrical dysrhythmia, not from blocked coronary arteries.  She credits the quick action of her daughters with saving her life.  Her 7th grade daughter learned how to do Hands-Only CPR this past January during PE class at school through the Save Lives Sonoma program, supported by PHCD’s HeartSafe Community.

Find That Perfect Something at #Petaluma’s Spring Antique Faire

“Antique” is of a latin origin “Ante” meaning before, and “Anticus” or “Antiquus” meaning former or ancient. “Antiquing” is action verb for the word Antique and means the process of making something old OR someone who “shops ’til they drop for cool old stuff”, and must find that unique piece that no other store has (not even Amazon or eBay) and must have it for your hutch, nook, porch, garden, entry way or favorite antique collection. As you are aware the high-tech revolution has born with it new words like SoLoMo or De-dupe. We decided to come up a new retro word of our own.  It’s Definition of Lumantiquing 2“Lumantiquing”.  The word “Luma” is the latin word for the coolest historic down town on the west coast, and – – well you know the rest. So Lumantiquing is the process of getting out your sunscreen and tape measure and heading to PetaLUMA for the Spring Antique Faire where thousands will come together on April 26 to shop for antiques in our quaint historic downtown.  Why do we call it a ‘Faire’ and not a ‘Fair’? Faire is simply the old fashioned spelling for Fair and pairs well with the word ‘antique’.

Petaluma Antique FairesThe Antique Faire happens twice a year – this year 2015 the Spring Faire is just a day following the Butter & Egg Days parade on Sunday April 26 (See our recent post Which Came First—the Butter or the Egg?), and the Fall Faire will be Sunday September 27th (Mark Your Calendar).  In past years this event has exceeded 10,000 visitors and shoppers.  Marie McCusker, Executive Director of the Petaluma Downtown Association, said this week that the Petaluma’s faire is ranked in the top 100 in the United States for antique faires.
