VIDEO: The Bohemian Interviews “J.J.” at Petaluma Hills Brewing
Stett Holbrook editor (owner/founder) of The Bohemian in Petaluma, California interviews JJ owner and brewmaster of Petaluma Hills Brewing Company on a segment they call “The Bohemian Life” that is a new video series that had its first debut this month. This is a Petaluma business run by a Petaluman family, and the video does a great job capturing and telling their story.

#Petaluma Police K-9 Basko Bounces Another Bad Boy

According the Petaluma Police Department, Officer Corie Joerger has been a K-9 handler with PPD since 2009 and was named “2014 Petaluma Police Officer of the Year” partly due to her team work with Basko which resulted in the seizure of 4 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 pound of cocaine, 10 pounds of marijuana and over $275,000 in cash in 2013.
As reported in a press release yesterday evening this incident happened on Wednesday May 6, 2015.
On 5/6/2015 at approximately 3:32 PM, K-9 Officer Corie Joerger was patrolling in the 800 block of Petaluma Blvd. North. Officer Joerger observed Shane Kee, riding his bicycle towards her vehicle. Officer Joerger was aware Kee was a wanted felon and currently had 3 outstanding arrest warrants for his arrest. Officer Joerger was also aware Kee has been arrested in the past for weapons violations. Kee had fled from Petaluma officers on May 5, 2015, the previous evening and eluded arrest.
Officer Joerger stopped her vehicle and ordered Kee to stop. Kee immediately fled from Officer Joerger. Officer Joerger pursued Kee into a parking lot, where he dropped his bicycle and continued fleeing on foot. Kee ran toward the rear of the parking lot, out of Officer Joerger’s view. Based on Kee’s warrants and his history of weapons charges, K-9 Officer Joerger removed her canine partner “Basko” from her vehicle to search for Kee. “Basko” located Kee hiding under a truck in the rear of the parking lot, concealing his hands. K-9 Officer Joerger ordered Kee several times to show his hands and surrender, Kee refused. Officer Joerger was forced to use “Basko” to assist in the apprehension of Kee.
Kee received medical treatment for minor injuries he received during his arrest. Kee was later booked into Sonoma County Jail for 3 outstanding arrest warrants and resisting arrest. Kee is being held on a No Bail hold.

KSRO Radio Interviews Sunday and Porter Great #Petaluma Chili Cookoff
Steve Jaxon radio broadcaster for KSRO interviewed Petaluma’s Laura Sunday and Houston Porter. Sunday tells how the Great Petaluma Chili Cookoff started and Porter, a Positively Petaluma contributor, will be supervising the event from oversees. During the interview they tasted some chili from a few contestants – you will have to watch to video to find out. Also they announce the “Golden Ticket” that will go to the Grand Champion this year.
It’s Easy! Feed Needy #Petaluma Families By Setting Food By Your Mailbox Saturday May 9
Helping others in Petaluma hasn’t been easier than this. Stamp Out Hunger is the largest single-day food drive in the nation. Petaluma USPS Letter Carriers will collect non-perishable food from the people/companies on their routes. This food will go to the Petaluma Salvation Army who distributes more than six tons of food per month to the needy in our community!
Donations have been down, but needs are higher than ever before. We are absolutely dependent upon the support of our community to help Petalumans in need. YOU can make a difference!
Please (right now before you forget) set a reminder in your online calendar, phone, or just ask your mother to remind you to set food out by your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 9th. And better yet, why not put the bag together the day before and have it by your door as a reminder?
Though all non-perishable food is welcome (no glass or expired food please), this is what is most needed:
- Canned Meat (Tuna, Chicken, etc.)
- Peanut Butter
- Soups & Stews
- Cereals
- Dry Beans
- Dry Pasta
- Pasta Sauce
- Dry Milk
- Canned Fruit
- Snack Foods (Things like trail mixes, popcorn, healthy snacks, etc.)

City Council Vote Pays Tribute to Petaluma Health Care District’s Work and Promotion of Health Care Awareness and Options in the Community
PETALUMA, Calif., May 5, 2015 – Petaluma Health Care District (PHCD) is pleased to announce that the Petaluma City Council voted last night to declare May 2015 as Health Care District Month. This declaration recognizes the essential role PHCD plays in Southern Sonoma County and the importance of creating and promoting health and wellness programs, services and initiatives that contribute to the health and vitality of the community.
In celebration of Health Care District Month, PHCD has formally launched its new website, www.phcd.org, and released its 2014 Annual Report, providing easy-to-access information and resources pertaining to its many community health programs and services. Throughout May, PHCD will be present at various local events, educating Southern Sonoma County residents on the district’s role in the community, including how to access its services and programs. These events include the Petaluma Kids Gran Fondo race, the Tuesday East Side Farmers’ Market on May 26 and the Saturday West Side Farmers’ Market on May 30. PHCD will culminate this month-long celebration with a breakfast in appreciation of its community partners. PHCD will also share information throughout the month on social media via its Facebook page.
“It’s an honor to receive this formal recognition, which we see as a platform to prompt awareness of the fact that we are here every day advocating for the health and well-being of our community. PHCD has a multitude of offerings and benefits related to community health, education, partnering efforts, and emergency and acute care services, as well as programs in place for our residents to access,” said PHCD CEO Ramona Faith. “Our belief is that good health is a state of complete physical, mental and societal well-being and not merely the absence of disease – and it takes a dedicated collaborative effort in today’s world to keep people educated on healthy habits and choices, as well as to provide access to high-quality medical care.”

Help Feed Families In #Petaluma: Volunteer this weekend for Letter Carrier Food Drive
The Letter Carrier Food Drive is the largest single-day food drive in the nation. They need your help. After the USPS letter carriers pick up the food it needs to be restocked on the shelves of the Petaluma Salvation Army food pantry. This program is entirely dependent on community support. It also accounts for half of all the food donated to Petaluma families throughout the year.
Please come by the Petaluma Salvation Army Headquarters located at 721 South McDowell Blvd. (cross street is Caulfield) on Saturday May 9 from 4PM to 7PM. Dinner will be provided for the volunteers.

This morning Steve Sansweet CEO of Rancho Obi-Wan was interview by ABC Perth – and Australian broadcast (The recording is on page 2 of this post). What is the significance of May 4th to Star Wars fans? It is the earliest known record chronicling Lucasfilm‘s Empire Strikes Back
“Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain’s first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was ‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,’ further proof of the extent to which Star Wars has influenced us all.”
This was later proclaimed to be “Star Wars Day” and LucasFilm embraced the spirit from their fans. Fans spread the word with #StarWarsDay. This year it is even a bigger year in anticipation of the release of a new trilogy starting with the much anticipate Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

St. Vincent Mustang Girls Beat Tough Rival Head Royce 9-2
UPDATE May 1, 2015 6:00PM: Petaluma Mustang Girls 10-Run Ruled Lakeport for a 10-0 shutout victory.
The Petaluma Mustang Girls started off behind in the early innings of the game with Head Royce leading by 1 run. In the 4th inning things started to work for the Petaluma Mustang Girls and they took advantage of Head Royce errors. Pitcher Hannah Sarlatte held off Head Royce only giving up two runs for the win. Petaluma Mustang Girls offense worked aggressively as a team with bunts, steals and a strong defense.
Tonite they play again against Upper Lake at 4PM at St. Vincent High School.
