Last but not least, one of the newest additions to Petaluma is Sonoma Spice Queen, an organic spice shop located on C Street. This Saturday, they will be serving Java & Spice Pulled Beef Sliders with Pickled Slaw, along with a Moroccan Lentil & Rice dish complemented with a refreshingly Spiced Iced Coffee. Started by self-proclaimed spice-enthusiast and culinary adventurer Wind McAlister, Sonoma Spice Queen features many exotic spices and teas for the home chef, including a middle-Eastern Zatar spice, Rainbow Peppercorn mixes, and French Herbs de Provence.
A wife, mother, and spice maker, McAlister has practically three full-time jobs, and explains that “My story is that I love to cook, and I have a lot of hard time finding truly culturally authentic spices.” Motivated in convincing the everyday chef that spices don’t have to be intimidating, McAlister aims to make everyday meal preparation more manageable and delightful to the palette, and even offers free local drop-off for orders to Petaluma residents. A new niche of Petaluma cooking essentials, Sonoma Spice Queen ensures fresh ingredients, and its cute shop invites the unfamiliar spice-user to explore new ways of enhancing any dish with a splash of additional spice flavor.
An event you won’t want to miss, the Taste of Petaluma draws crowds in the hundreds, and brings together musicians, restaurants, and hungry denizens yearning to get a bite of the best food that Petaluma has to offer. Only a few days away, you’ll want to make sure you get your tickets fast and bring family and friends.
